Be content

Today's word: 1 Timothy 6:6-12

6But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. 10For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
11But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

How about you?

Do you often wish for something you don't have? Or wish you could be doing something that you can't do? In his letter to Timothy, Paul wrote that Christian should be content no matter what their circumstances. So, instead of wishing for what you don't have, be thankful for what you do have. Listen to yourself talk. Are you a complainer, or are you content?

To memorize: 1 Timothy 6:6

Godliness with contentment is great gain.

oo now this IS a toughie xD

yah ...gotta agree with you justin.....
hhmmm....we always want what we cannot get. But when we do get what we want at times, how much do we actually treasure it? ....for example, there's this pair of really nice expensive shoes i want. i save up for it. I buy it..and i'm on the top of the world. But after a year or so. The shoe that was my uttermost priority is no longer that important. It gets a bit older and dirtier and i'll eventually throw it out. So what good is it for a man to gain the whole world but to loose His own soul. Why invest in things that can be ruined by rust and destroyed by month. Now these earthly pleasures are secondary. But sowing into the Kingdom of God gives me a sense of well....that I know i won't regret it (e.g. buying something u end up not wearing)....And a feeling of satisfaction.....some food for thought!

My thoughts...
First, distinguish your NEEDS from your WANTS.
Second, dun be jealouse of what others have.
Third, God is not really bothered how much you have earned or gained... He is more concerned about: OK, I have given you this much, how are you using it for My glory? Try answering that, and you'll start to find contentment. "Those who have been given much, much will be demanded..."

Example: Ahhhh, I am so envious of Bob's yellow Ford Splash... :-). But If God lets me have one, am I using it befitting of His glory? Hmmm.

Hehee... Merry Christmas.

One thing which helps counter this is to have a thankful nature.
One way to cultivate a thankful nature is to DAILY make a list of things to thank God for. I started doing this years ago and it helped. Not allowed to repeat the items on the list. Had to simple but specific e.g. thanks that I found the eraser I thought I lost, didnt have to wait long for the bus... etc. Did the list at the end of each day. Wrote it down. Helped heaps.
hmmmm probably ought to revive it again! Hahahaha!
