Put Jesus first

Today's word: Colossians 1:16-19

16For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him,

How about you?
Does Christ have first place in your life, or is He crowded out by other things like hobbies, sports, TV or friends? Let Him preempt those things in your life rather than allowing them to preempt Him. You shouldn't let anything come between you and your Savior!

To memorize: Colossians 1:18
And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy

Follow God's orders

Today's word: Ephesians 4:25-5:2

25Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body. 26"In your anger do not sin"[a]: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27and do not give the devil a foothold. 28He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need.

29Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. 30And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

1Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children 2and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

How about you?
Have you read today's Scripture? It lists just a few of the commands God has given. If you're a Christian, He expects you to obey them. Read them again. After each one, ask yourself, "Am I obeying this command?" Good soldiers don't question their orders; they just obey them.

To memorize: Matthew 28:19-20
19Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

Talk with your parents

Today's word: Colossians 3:20-21

20Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.

21Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.

How about you?
Do you feel that you're being treated unfairly by your parents? Perhaps if you would talk over the problem with them in a calm way-not angrily-something could be worked out. Apply the Bible verse to all family situations whether you are the youngest or oldest child.

To memorize: Ephesians 4:32
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you

Practice the golden rule

Today's word: Luke 6:27-31

27"But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. 30Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31Do to others as you would have them do to you.

How about you?
Today's verse is called the Golden Rule. Do you practice it? Do you treat others the way you would like to be treated even if it doesn't seem fair to you? Jesus gave us this rule. Honor Him by obeying it.

To memorize: Luke6:31
Do to others as you would have them do to you

Keep your promises

Today's word: Ecclesiastes 5:1-7

1 Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong.

2 Do not be quick with your mouth,
do not be hasty in your heart
to utter anything before God.
God is in heaven
and you are on earth,
so let your words be few.

3 As a dream comes when there are many cares,
so the speech of a fool when there are many words.

4 When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow. 5 It is better not to vow than to make a vow and not fulfill it. 6 Do not let your mouth lead you into sin. And do not protest to the temple messenger, "My vow was a mistake." Why should God be angry at what you say and destroy the work of your hands? 7 Much dreaming and many words are meaningless. Therefore stand in awe of God.

How about you?
Are you quick to make promises to God- or to others- but reluctant to carry them out? God always does what He says He will do. You should too. If keeping your promises means doing something hard or inconvenient, do it anyway. Think before you promise!

To memorize: Ecclesiastes 5:4
When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow

Don't neglect your witness

Today's word: 2 Timothy 1:3-8

3I thank God, whom I serve, as my forefathers did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. 4Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. 5I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. 6For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. 8So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God

How about you?
Have you been neglecting your Christian witness? Have you become slack about praying, reading your bible, or attending youth anc church? In today's reading Paul tells Timothy to stir up the gift that is in him. This may be good advice for you, too. The Christian life should be exciting, not dull. Use God's power to make it shine.

To memorize: 2 Timothy 1:7
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline

Be compassionate

Today's word: Isaiah 59:3-8

3 For your hands are stained with blood,
your fingers with guilt.
Your lips have spoken lies,
and your tongue mutters wicked things.

4 No one calls for justice;
no one pleads his case with integrity.
They rely on empty arguments and speak lies;
they conceive trouble and give birth to evil.

5 They hatch the eggs of vipers
and spin a spider's web.
Whoever eats their eggs will die,
and when one is broken, an adder is hatched.

6 Their cobwebs are useless for clothing;
they cannot cover themselves with what they make.
Their deeds are evil deeds,
and acts of violence are in their hands.

7 Their feet rush into sin;
they are swift to shed innocent blood.
Their thoughts are evil thoughts;
ruin and destruction mark their ways.

8 The way of peace they do not know;
there is no justice in their paths.
They have turned them into crooked roads;
no one who walks in them will know peace.

How about you?
If you or someone you love were hurt, how would you want others to react? Let's respond with kindness and compassion. Remember, suffering isn't easy, and sometimes isn't fun.

To memorize: 1 Peter 3:8
Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble

Love one another

Today's word: John 13:34-35

34"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

How about you?
Can others tell by your label that you're a Christian? Do they see love in your words? In your actions? They should not only see you display love towards the unsaved, but especially toward other Christians. Check your actions today. Make sure the label of 'love' is there for everyone to see.

To memorize: John 13:35
By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another

Think about good things

Today's word: Psalm 42:5-11

5 Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and 6 my God.
My [a] soul is downcast within me;
therefore I will remember you
from the land of the Jordan,
the heights of Hermon—from Mount Mizar.

7 Deep calls to deep
in the roar of your waterfalls;
all your waves and breakers
have swept over me.

8 By day the LORD directs his love,
at night his song is with me—
a prayer to the God of my life.

9 I say to God my Rock,
"Why have you forgotten me?
Why must I go about mourning,
oppressed by the enemy?"

10 My bones suffer mortal agony
as my foes taunt me,
saying to me all day long,
"Where is your God?"

11 Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.

How about you?
When you're sick or in trouble, do you concentrate on that and complain about it? Practice being cheerful. Put good things in your mind, and God will give you peace.

To memorize: Psalm 42:5
Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior
