God is unchanging

Today's word: James 1:17-25

17Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

19My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. 21Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

22Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror 24and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.

How about you?
Do you think it's old-fashioned to stick to old standards? Do you think Christians should keep up with times and be free to do things if they 'sound right' or 'feel good'? Times do change, it's true- and it's okay to change some things. But when it comes to what God has taught in His word, that never changes. The commandments He has given (don't lie, steal, covet etc.) must always be obeyed.

To memorize: Malachi 3:6
I the LORD do not change

Truth never changes. Truth is truth. Truth is the Word of God. It is unchanging though the "heavens can tremble and fall".

God gives us different talents to do His bidding. We must follow our calling, only then can we have a fruitful and satisfying life. If we do not make use of our God-given talents, we will slowly but surely lose it.

When we walk in obedience, great will be our blessings. It is not easy, it is not achieved without "sacrifice". BUT what is any effort that we have to make or things that we have to give up when compared to what the Lord has done for us??

We can change "with the times" over the years as different generations come about but ONLY if the changes to be made are aligned with God's truth.

Always pray for wisdom and guidance so as to do the proper thing. Remember, "we can do nothing on our own" !

Ben Wong reminded us that RADICAL comes from the Latin RADIC which means truth. So by adhering to and advocating the Word of God as our plumbline, we become radicals. Yaaayyyy! If other people call that being old-fashioned, then not only have they misunderstood, but we ought to consider helping them understand. Principles and values ought not change. The teaching and the outworking of them might.....

The Lord our God is the same yesterday, today and forever more. His standards will always be the samea. So we cannot compromise Christian principles just because `time has changed'.
