Love God, not possessions

Today's word: Luke 12:16-21

16And he told them this parable: "The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. 17He thought to himself, 'What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.'

18"Then he said, 'This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry." '

20"But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?'

21"This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God."

How about you?
What things do you want very badly? What goals do you have for your life? Good grades? Money? Fun? Pretty clothes? A big car? Don't let them trap you into missing what God intends for you. It may be that He has those things in His plan for you, but you need to be willing to let them go. If they are not in His plan, you can be sure He has something even better.

To memorize: Colossians 3:2
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things

ya lorh.
earthly things.. don really bring much joy to anyone too. temporary joy.. i think. gagagga

Spiritual Food for thought:

Your wealth must be left behind
so take time off to be kind.

silver and gold I have none,
am I missing all the fun?

earthly treasures will not last
On to God's Word, hold fast.

Be contented with what we have.
We are rich indeed with God's
unconditional love. It is far better to "lay up treasures in heaven", cos that is our final
destination when we meet up with our Lord. What is of this world is
temporal, we are just passing through. We can enjoy our journey
but do not idolise our earthly possessions.

The peace of mind that the joy in the Lord gives us is beyond value. It is our strength when we are weak, it is what truly makes us rich. This truth indeed sets us free. Hallelujah!

akkk i've been really wanting a new computer or a new handphone or something like that... Gah gah gah

hrm.. i've been thinking abt tht lately, abt how i'm so attached to all my possesions and wanting more things. but all these things will bring no lasting good... nopz! i shud learn how to let go and nt take so much importance into earthly things... and invest more in heavenly possesions.. yeps~

YAHHH row!! donno what heavenly things hor? hm..furniture? food? ... kettle? ... (still wondering what heaven is like)

hm... actually i wan a new handphone. one with camera and recordings, mp3..

hehe.

It is okay to want things like a new handphone, computer, a pair of Nikes. Nothing wrong with that. It is only when we place too much emphasis on material things like a shinny Mercedez or being one of the Malaysian Idols that the danger of "worshipping" worldly values comes into play. We need to guard against all these as they will only bring us frustrations and resentments and jealousy, leading to discontentment and unhappiness.

If it is in accordance with God's
will, He will "grant us the desires of our heart". Pray for the right things and our prayers will be answered. So, guys and gals, be a bit patient and just wait for your handphone, computer, digital video cam etc.

Heavenly treasures are peace of mind, joy in worship, contentment with what the Lord has given us so far, gaining wisdom fr the reading of God's Word, ability to be kind and loving to one another etc.

Let us rejoice and give thanks for God's abundant blessings!
