God's way is best

Today's word: 1 Peter 3:12-17

12For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their prayer,
but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."[a]

13Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? 14But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear what they fear[b]; do not be frightened."[c] 15But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 16keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. 17It is better, if it is God's will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.

How about you?
Is it hard for your non-Christian friends to understand why you won't join them in cheating, swearing, or treating someone unkindly? Do you get teased for doing what is right? God says it's better to suffer for well-doing than evil-doing. Continue to follow His way, even when your friends don't understand.

To memorize: 1 Corinthians 1:18
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God

Care by sharing

Today's word: Romans 15:1-7

1We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. 2Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. 3For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: "The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me."[a] 4For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

5May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, 6so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

7Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.

How about you?
Are you willing to help someone in need even if it means giving something that is very special to you? God was! By sharing with others- sharing your time, your money, your things, your prayers- you cam make their burden a little lighter.

To memorize: Galatians 6:2
Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ

Be dependable

Today's word: Psalm 12

1 Help, LORD, for the godly are no more;
the faithful have vanished from among men.

2 Everyone lies to his neighbor;
their flattering lips speak with deception.

3 May the LORD cut off all flattering lips
and every boastful tongue

4 that says, "We will triumph with our tongues;
we own our lips [b] —who is our master?"

5 "Because of the oppression of the weak
and the groaning of the needy,
I will now arise," says the LORD.
"I will protect them from those who malign them."

6 And the words of the LORD are flawless,
like silver refined in a furnace of clay,
purified seven times.

7 O LORD, you will keep us safe
and protect us from such people forever.

8 The wicked freely strut about
when what is vile is honored among men.

How about you?
Do you get discouraged when a friend lets you down? Can you think of a time when you may have discouraged someone else? It does happen once in a while. You need to be sensitive to other people - to be kind to them. If you tell a friend you will do something, you should mean what you are saying and do it. If you know the Lord, people should be able to depend on you.

To memorize: Titus 1:16
They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him

Grow into maturity

Today's word: 2 Peter 3:11-14, 18

11Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.[a]That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.

14So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.

18But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

How about you?
Are you eager to be older? Do you think being "grown-up" happens automatically at a certain age? It doesn't. It's a gradual process, just as growing physically is a process. Growing in the Lord takes time, too. We need to pray for help to become more mature every day - more like our savior. Start now!

To memorize: 2 Peter 3:18
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen

Be ready for Jesus

Today's word: Luke 12:37-43

37It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. I tell you the truth, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them. 38It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the second or third watch of the night. 39But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. 40You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him."

41Peter asked, "Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or to everyone?"

42The Lord answered, "Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? 43It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns.

How about you?
Would you be ready if Jesus came back today? Do you know Him as your Savior? If so, are you busy serving Him and obeying His commandments? Don't be taken by surprise. Be ready!

To memorize: Luke 12:40
You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him

Trust God in all things

Today's word: Psalm 18:30-32

30 As for God, his way is perfect;
the word of the LORD is flawless.
He is a shield
for all who take refuge in him.

31 For who is God besides the LORD ?
And who is the Rock except our God?

32 It is God who arms me with strength
and makes my way perfect.

How about you?
Have you ever been in a situation that seemed to keep getting worse and worse? Perhaps you've even prayed about it, but God didn't seem to answer. Maybe He was using this situation in your life in a way you never realised. Keep trusting God. Thank Him even if you are going through a hard time.

To memorize: Psalm 18:32
It is God who arms me with strength
and makes my way perfect.

Express thanks to others

Today's word: Luke 17:11-19

11Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy[a]met him. They stood at a distance 13and called out in a loud voice, "Jesus, Master, have pity on us!"

14When he saw them, he said, "Go, show yourselves to the priests." And as they went, they were cleansed.

15One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.

17Jesus asked, "Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?" 19Then he said to him, "Rise and go; your faith has made you well."

How about you?
Do you think writing thank-you notes is a boring job? Do you sometimes forget to write them? When Jesus was on earth, He noticed who said thank you and who didn't. Don't assume that everyone knows how thankful you are. Say it. Write it when necessary. Express it to other people, and to God as well.

To memorize: Colossians 3:15
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

God helps His children

Today's word: Exodus 4:10-15

10 Moses said to the LORD, "O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue."

11 The LORD said to him, "Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD ? 12 Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say."

13 But Moses said, "O Lord, please send someone else to do it."

14 Then the LORD's anger burned against Moses and he said, "What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and his heart will be glad when he sees you. 15 You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do.

How about you?
Does it make you nervous to have to talk in front of a group of people? It's true that some people are just naturally more shy than others. But it will help if you are honest about your nervousness and if you stop worrying about what others will think of you. Pick a subject about which you feel strongly, and use the opportunity as a witness to God's help and power. If He wants y0u to speak, either privately of publicly, He will help you find the right words to say.

To memorize: Exodus 4:12
Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.

Obey those in charge

Today's word: Colossians 3:22-25

22Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. 23Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, 24since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. 25Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favoritism.

How about you?
Sure you get tired of being bossed around! But remember, God has placed people in authority over you to save you a lot of heartache. You will never be sorry for being obedient.

To memorize: Hebrews 13:17
Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.

Watch your words

Today's word: Psalm 19:12-14

12 Who can discern his errors?
Forgive my hidden faults.

13 Keep your servant also from willful sins;
may they not rule over me.
Then will I be blameless,
innocent of great transgression.

14 May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight,
O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

How about you?
Do you ever leave home with sharp words hanging between you and your family? Do you feed those feelings of anger with bitter thoughts? Right now, make up your mind to stop. Determine to say only words you would not regret if you knew they were the last words you would ever say to that people.

To memorize: Proverbs 10:19
When words are many, sin is not absent,
but he who holds his tongue is wise

Open your Bible and read

Today's word: Psalm 19:7-11

7 The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul.
The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple.

8 The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes.

9 The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever.
The ordinances of the LORD are sure and altogether righteous.

10 They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb.

11 By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.

How about you?
Do you open your Bible and read something from God's word everyday? You should. It can't help you if you leave it closed.

To memorize: Psalm 19:7
The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple.

Be a comforter

Today's word: 2 Corinthians 1:3-7

3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. 5For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. 6If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. 7And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.

How about you?
Are you as sympathetic with others as you should be? Do you sincerely pray for them? Think of times you've been sick or have any problems. Try to remember little things people did for you which you liked. Give others the same kind of help you experienced.

To memorize: 2 Corinthians 1:4
who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God

Check the book (the Bible)

Today's word: 2 Timothy 3:13-17

13while evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

How about you?
Have you ever felt foolish over being deceived? It's not so serious when someone dools you just to tease, but don't let Satan deceive you. He may try to convince you that it's okay to tell a 'little' lie. He may say it's all right to cheat sometimes. He may encourage you to disobey your parents. He tries many ways to deceive you, so keep checking the Book!

To memorize: Titus 1:9
He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.

Trust God to open doors

Today's word: Colossians 4:2-6

2Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart. 3Don't forget to pray for us, too, that God will give us many opportunities to preach about his secret plan--that Christ is also for you Gentiles. That is why I am here in chains. 4Pray that I will proclaim this message as clearly as I should.

5Live wisely among those who are not Christians, and make the most of every opportunity. 6Let your conversation be gracious and effective so that you will have the right answer for everyone.

How about you?
Are you discouraged and ready to give up doing something God wants you to do? Don't quit. Pray about it and trust God to open doors at just the right time.

To memorize: Colossians 4:3
Don't forget to pray for us, too, that God will give us many opportunities to preach about his secret plan

Wisdom is a treasure

Today's word: Proverbs 8:5-14

5 You who are simple, gain prudence;
you who are foolish, gain understanding.

6 Listen, for I have worthy things to say;
I open my lips to speak what is right.

7 My mouth speaks what is true,
for my lips detest wickedness.

8 All the words of my mouth are just;
none of them is crooked or perverse.

9 To the discerning all of them are right;
they are faultless to those who have knowledge.

10 Choose my instruction instead of silver,
knowledge rather than choice gold,

11 for wisdom is more precious than rubies,
and nothing you desire can compare with her.

12 "I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence;
I possess knowledge and discretion.

13 To fear the LORD is to hate evil;
I hate pride and arrogance,
evil behavior and perverse speech.

14 Counsel and sound judgment are mine;
I have understanding and power.

How about you?
Do you search for wisdom? Are you growing in Bible knowledge and Christian living? Nothing can be compared to the treasure of wisdom, and it begins with learning what God wants to teach you from His word.

To memorize: Proverbs 8:11
for wisdom is more precious than rubies,
and nothing you desire can compare with her.

Don't be blind to God's ways

Today's word: Ephesians 4:17-24

17So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. 18They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. 19Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.

20You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. 21Surely you heard of him and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. 22You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

How about you?
Are you afraid of being teased and laughed at because you're a Christian? Are you afraid of being a little different from your friends? Don't be blind to what God wants you to do. The blessings He'll give as you live for Him are worth any teasing you may be asked to endure.

To memorize: Ephesians 4:17
I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking

Let Jesus shine through you

Today's word: John 1:1-9

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning.

3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood[a] it.

6There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. 7He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. 8He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.[b]

How about you?
Have you been brightening up the world or casting shadows? Can others see the light of Jesus shining through you? Regular church attendance, private devotions, and time spend in prayer will help you to be cheerful Christian who brightens the lives of others.

To memorize: Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

God is with you

Today's word: Acts 17:24, 27-28

24"The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands.
27
God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. 28'For in him we live and move and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.'

How about you?
Have you discovered that prayer is even better than a telephone? It takes time for people to come, after you call themon the phone. God, on the other hand, is with you right now, and help is as near as He is. When you feel the need for help, call on Him. He wants you to do that.

To memorize: Isaiah 57:15
"I live in a high and holy place,
but also with him who is contrite and lowly in spirit,
to revive the spirit of the lowly
and to revive the heart of the contrite."

Read the bible

Today's word: Psalm 119:9-16

9 How can a young man keep his way pure?
By living according to your word.

10 I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.

11 I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.

12 Praise be to you, O LORD;
teach me your decrees.

13 With my lips I recount
all the laws that come from your mouth.

14 I rejoice in following your statutes
as one rejoices in great riches.

15 I meditate on your precepts
and consider your ways.

16 I delight in your decrees;
I will not neglect your word.

How about you?
Are you keeping your Bible looking nice but unused? Is the Bible a part of your everyday life? Remember, it's your spiritual food. Don't neglect those meals.

To memorize: Psalm 119:15
I meditate on your precepts
and consider your ways

Watch the little things

Today's word: 2 Corinthians 6:14-18

14Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15What harmony is there between Christ and Belial[a]? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people."[b]
17"Therefore come out from them
and be separate, says the Lord.
Touch no unclean thing,
and I will receive you."[c]
18"I will be a Father to you,
and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."[d]

How about you?
Are little things creeping into your life which will weaken you spiritually? What about the music you listen to, the books you read, the words you say? Check your life nowfor little sins that you need to destroy.

To memorize: 2 Corinthians 7:1
Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.

Remember God's goodness

Today's word: 1 Samuel 7:7-12

7 When the Philistines heard that Israel had assembled at Mizpah, the rulers of the Philistines came up to attack them. And when the Israelites heard of it, they were afraid because of the Philistines. 8 They said to Samuel, "Do not stop crying out to the LORD our God for us, that he may rescue us from the hand of the Philistines." 9 Then Samuel took a suckling lamb and offered it up as a whole burnt offering to the LORD. He cried out to the LORD on Israel's behalf, and the LORD answered him.

10 While Samuel was sacrificing the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to engage Israel in battle. But that day the LORD thundered with loud thunder against the Philistines and threw them into such a panic that they were routed before the Israelites. 11 The men of Israel rushed out of Mizpah and pursued the Philistines, slaughtering them along the way to a point below Beth Car.

12 Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, [a] saying, "Thus far has the LORD helped us."

How about you?
Do you have a way of remembering the things tha Lord has done for you? Have you received some special answers to prayer, or has God protected you in a dangerous situation? Maybe He's helped you through a hard class at school or a hard time at work. Why don't you try to keep a record of what God has done for you? Don't do it to dwell on the past, but do it to be reminded of God's great help when you're faced with a difficult situation.

To memorize: Psalm 59:16
But I will sing of your strength,
in the morning I will sing of your love;
for you are my fortress,
my refuge in times of trouble.
